Side Event to the Third PrepCom of FFD4 ¨C Advancing the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index: Practical Pathways for Integrating Vulnerability into Development Financing for Vulnerable Countries
United Nations Headquarters, Conference Room 6, New York
The international community has recognised vulnerability as a significant barrier to sustainable development, driven, in part, by the growing impact of external shocks and stressors experienced by countries. In response, the UN General Assembly, adopted Resolution 78/322, on the Multi Dimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) a tool to measure structural vulnerability and (lack of) structural resilience across multiple dimensions at the national level, and invited inter alia the IFI¡¯s multilateral banks and development partners to consider its use as a complement to their existing practices and policies.
This event will facilitate knowledge sharing among stakeholders on vulnerability, and identify opportunities to better integrate vulnerability into development financing mechanisms to meet the needs of vulnerable countries. This is an important step in advancing the MVI as a practical tool for addressing vulnerabilities and ensuring that concessional financing mechanisms are responsive to the needs of vulnerable countries, including SIDS.
