Japan is committed to utilizing the capacities of the United Nations to advance conflict prevention and peacebuilding for sustainable peace. Effective prevention requires comprehensive approaches, that ensure humanitarian, development, peace (HDP) nexus. Investing in peace is at the heart of this shared mission.
Japan has been a member of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) since 2005. As a strong advocate and active member, Japan has played a prominent role, including serving as Chair of the Commission in 2007 and 2008. Additionally, Japan serves as the informal coordinator of relations between the PBC and the Security Council in 2024, working to enhance synergies and foster greater complementarity between the two bodies.
Japan is a steadfast partner of the Peacebuilding Support Office in promoting and advancing peace worldwide. Japan is among the top donors of the Peacebuilding Fund since its inception. Most recently, Japan contributed $4 million to the PBF in 2024, bolstering its peacebuilding efforts globally. Since the Fund¡¯s inception, Japan has contributed over $67 million, including more than $14 million for the 2020-2024 Strategy period. Japan is the 13th largest donor of the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) for the strategy period 2020-2024.
This support aligns seamlessly with Japan¡¯s dedication to conflict prevention, stabilization, and peacebuilding in conflict-affected states.
