Excellencies,
Distinguished Delegates,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As we conclude the 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, I express my sincere gratitude to the United Nations Regional Commissions for their dedication in organizing this crucial event.
With six years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the urgency of our mission is clear.
Achieving SDG 7¡ªuniversal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy¡ªis vital for addressing the climate crisis along with the economic and social challenges, ensuring sustainable development for all and leaving no one behind.
Recent months have seen significant commitments from world leaders.
The G20 Energy Ministers in Brazil pledged to triple renewable energy, double energy efficiency, and expand energy grids by 2030.
At COP29 in Baku, Member States committed to tripling climate finance, aiming to mobilize 300 billion US dollars annually for developing countries by 2035, with a broader target of 1.3 trillion US dollars per year from public and private sources.
In New York, the UN Member States proposed extending the Decade for Sustainable Energy for All to 2030.
Looking ahead, the 2025 update of Nationally Determined Contributions, and the third SDG7 review at the 2026 High-Level Political Forum will be key opportunities to enhance climate resilience and bridge energy access gaps.
The United Nations is actively working to accelerate progress on SDG7, through initiatives like UN-Energy and Energy Compacts, uniting Governments, businesses, and civil society to transform commitments into tangible actions.
The challenges are significant, but together, we can overcome them.
Let us deepen our partnerships, strengthen our resolve, and seize this moment to ensure a just and inclusive energy future for all.
Thank you.
