A founding member of the Group of Seven Plus (g7+), an intergovernmental organization of countries that promotes peace and stability through advocacy on aid effectiveness and facilitates peer learning on good development practices, Timor-Leste has been contributing to peacebuilding and sustaining peace at international, regional and national levels. Since 2022, Timor-Leste has been engaged with the Peacebuilding Commission to mobilize support for its peacebuilding priorities, discuss challenges and share good practices and lessons learned.
The Peacebuilding Commission¡¯s first-ever ambassadorial-level meeting on Timor-Leste took place in September 2022, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Jos¨¦ Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste, and H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusm?o, Prime Minister of the country. Timor-Leste further contributed to the discussion at the Commission during its multi-country meeting on transitional justice in April 2023, alongside Colombia and The Gambia. Mr. Hugo Fernandes, the Chief Executive Officer of the Centro Nacional Chega!, shared the country¡¯s experience in actively promoting reconciliation. Most recently, the new Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Dionisio Da Costa Babo Soares, shared Timor-Leste experience on national efforts for peacebuilding at the Commission on 22 March 2024, together with Kenya and Norway.
