UNAI SDG Hub 14 Chair: University of Bergen
The University of Bergen (UiB) is one of Norway's leading comprehensive research universities. is a strategic priority of the university and builds on decades of developing marine science and education in Bergen. The university has more than 20,000 students and about 4,500 staff across the central administration and its seven faculties.
UiB is one of the world's leading universities in ocean sciences with marine research and education as one of three focus areas at the institution. UiB seeks to use its research to impact decision-makers on national and international levels and inspire people to act to protect our ocean.
UiB engaged with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda from an early stage, establishing SDG Bergen (2018-2021), which was a strategic initiative at the university and included science diplomacy and scientific advice. As part of this initiative there were several SDG oriented task forces, a working group to transform the university¡¯s education to encompass the SDGs, and the annual SDG Conference Bergen (2018-2025), which was a novel arena for SDG oriented science-policy discussions.
