28 August 2018 - (Japan), a member institution of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in accordance with its principle of Do for Others launched the Internal Internationalization Project and on 24 May 2017, made an agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Japan Association for UNHCR in order to participate in the UNHCR-Refugee Higher Education Programme (RHEP) coordinated by these entities.

Amrita University's real-time landslide warning system to save lives in the Himalayan region

7 August 2018 - (India), a member institution of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), is leading a project co-funded by the Indian Government to save lives in mountainous regions by installing state-of-the-art systems that give advance warnings of landslides so that people can be safely evacuated before disaster strikes. After commissioning India's first such system in the Western Ghats mountains of the state of Kerala, it is now readying a second installation in the state of Sikkim to guard against rainfall-induced landslides.

UN Staffers Honor Memory of Mandela with Community Garden Volunteer Day

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's birth, over 100 UN volunteers in New York commemorated the day through various community service programs around the city. One such volunteer activity took place in Harlem, a neighborhood Nelson Mandela visited a number of times, where UN volunteers partnered with the New York City Mayor's Office and Harlem Grown, an organization that provides healthy, affordable food alternatives to the Harlem area. UN staff volunteered their time to help maintain the community gardens; volunteers pulled weeds, watered vegetables and fruits, and planted seeds. They also helped clear out trash and organize gardening facilities alongside the young Harlem Grown staff.
